Home to only 2,500 residents, Cabin John used to be about the tobacco plantation life a long time ago. The town also lies along the old Chesapeake and Ohio Canal which was in operation from 1831 to 1924. Now the old canal is a National Park with verdant greenspace and original locks and waterways, and a perfect playground for the lucky folks who live in bucolic communities along the way. More About the Cabin John Real Estate Market
There is not nearly as much of a real estate inventory as a few years ago but Cabin John homes for sale do still exist, ranging in price from around $650,000 to three million or so. Architectural types in Cabin John range from small cottages to large estates. It should be noted, however, that high-end custom homes here often favor retro Victorian and clapboard Colonial style, and even some great post-and-beam houses. There are also a very small number of townhouse condos for sale but they don't list often.
Another very small subset of the homes for sale is a group of cottages known as Cabin John Gardens which were once part of a government housing program for World War II workers.
Cabin John is right on the DC border with MacArthur Blvd as its Main Street. Local restaurants include Wild Tomato and My Sushi, and there's also the highly popular Bethesda Co-op on Seven Locks Road with local farm grown produce. Finally, there's the annual Crab and Chicken Fest on the first Saturday after Labor Day. This is an awesome place with a tight-knit community and terrific homes for sale.
